You will find below the changes of rules the Committee has voted during the meeting of January, 5th that apply as soon as this year.u [French Text shall prevail]u
Flotation Volumes
As annouced during the 2007 General Assembly, the article J-13-d will be changed as follow : «The flotation volumes must be either bonded or partitioned off to resist loads of at least the value of their buoyancy.»
Besides, we will ask all the skippers of 2008 boats (first measurement session for prototypes and date of launching for production boats) to provide the Classe Mini with the insubmersibility form of the boat signed by the designer, shipyard and skipper. This form will especially include a side view of the Mini on which will appear the volume in m3 of each flotation volume, the waterline and the residual freeboard (bow and stern) of the boat floaded as defined in the article J-13-c of the 2007 Guide Mini.
The Measurement Committee will have to anounce before September, 30th 2008 any other decision regarding the flotation volumes that will apply to all the boats in January, 1st 2009.
Companionway
The article J-8-c-1 is changed as follow : “They will have to be fixed to the boat thanks to hinges (fixed or sliding) that cannot be removed wihtout the use of any tool".
The article J-8-c-2 is changed as follow : “ Hatch boards for the companionway will have to be equiped with a locking system that can be operated from inside and outside of the boat, acting on the same locking system.”
New articles :
J-8-c-3 : Portholes or opening hatches of an area of more than 0,071 m² must open in a way that the mobile part moves towards outside.
J-8-c-4 : Companionways must be equiped with a minimum coaming of 250 mm. The upper part of it can be detachable (fixed to the hatch with hinges and opening towards outside) provided the residual coaming is at least 125 mm.
Liferaft
The artcile E-2-f is changed as follow :
E-2-f-1 Inside, in an area from the transom to 15cm in front of it for boats equipped with safety hatches (see J-9 of the 2007 Guide Mini). It must be possible to take it out of the boat through the safety hatch. It must be guided from up, down and both sides so that there is no asperity during the extraction.
E-2-f-2 Unchanged
E-2-f-3 The system of fixation of the liferaft must enable the skipper to drop it fast with only one hand.
E-2-f-4 The skipper has to prove in a test that the liferaft can be taken out in 15 seconds (OSR – Chapter 4.20.4.a).
